FOUNDING DIRECTOR

BARBARA BENISH

An artist raised in the U.S., who moved to the Czech Republic in 1993 after completing a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Prague. Benish’s own work has been shown at P.S.1 Museum in New York, U.N.E.S.C.O. Headquarters in Paris, the Venice Biennale in Italy and a survey exhibition at the Pomona Museum of Art at the Claremont Graduate University in California, (her alma mater). Her work is represented in public and private collections around the world including The Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Stadtgeschichtliche Museen in Nürnberg, Germany. Barbara Benish has had over 40 solo exhibitions internationally.

DEE HIBBERT-JONES

Dee Hibbert-Jones is an Academy Award nominated, Emmy® award winning filmmaker and internationally recognized artist. Her work incorporates animation, installation, public art and documentary film examining power and politics: how people manage and who gets heard. She explores diverse subjects from land use and wasted resources, to criminal justice and indigent rights: examining what is considered valuable and who is dismissed as valueless. Hibbert-Jones is a Guggenheim Fellow and teaches sculpture, public art and digital art new media at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and advises in film and social documentary. Her short film, installation and new media projects have been exhibited worldwide in exhibitions, museums and festivals; broadcast internationally and shown on Netflix. ArtMill is delighted to be collaborating with UCSC to bring Dee's popular Art in the Global Context course to students studying abroad.

ESTHER WILLA STILWELL

Esther Willa Stilwell is an American born artist and organizer.  Using alternative mediums such as games, using video and installation her artwork explores the relationship between utopia/dystopia, technology/nature, and reality/fantasy. She recently graduated from Pitzer College, with degrees in studio art and organizational studies. Esther has held positions at institutions such as The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Pomona College Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Quito, The LAB, and Hyde Park Art Center. Stilwell has shown her work both nationally and internationally including exhibitions at No Lugar (Quito, EC), Pomona College (CA), Scripps College (CA), and Harvey Mudd College (CA).

PETR PROKOPÍK

Originally from Prague, Petr received Ph.D in Anthropology from Charles University in 2008 with a specialization in 'Anthropology of Sexuality'. He has carried out research in gypsy camps in Eastern Slovakia and participated in numerous projects targeting the gypsy population, immigrants and refugees in the Czech Republic. He has been lecturing Cultural Anthropology at  Charles University in Prague and at the University of West Bohemia in Plzen.  Currently he is running his own travel company Prague4gay and continuing his research in the field of Anthropology of Sexuality collaborating with UCLA.

MARKETA MRÁZOVÁ

Marketa studied accounting and languages at Plzen University and has been with ArtMill for 3 years as Assistant Director of Galerie Califia and as a member of Art Dialogue, o.s. Marketa has been active in scouting since she was young and still leads youth groups.  She is an avid hiker and loves to travel.

MARIANA DOČEKALOVÁ

Mariana holds a degree in Education from Charles University in Prague, with an emphasis in Arts Education.  She works as a an author and lector at the Department of Educational Programs of Rudolfinum Gallery in Prague and previously taught art at MUM (Mother's Center), before establishing her own preschool program Kružitko. Her graphics and sculptures have been shown locally.
