MIDGRAY: SOMETHING UNNAMED
A multimedia installation and archival project exploring the role of power and permissions in contemporary hetero-masculine sexual identity.
Postponed until further notice.
Sexual violence is often framed as a women’s issue, so the artists repurposed a dating app to interview men about consent. The multimedia installation No in Disguise explores how a popular American dating app pre-structures sexual relationships through conversations with men algorithmically targeted by their views on sexual consent.
Through a series of online and offline conversations, this project provides various points of entry into cultural discussions about the role of power and permissions in contemporary hetero-masculine sexual identity. An accompanying selection of physical and digital artifacts provide a core sample of the ways masculinity is performed and experienced in contemporary American society, laying bare key contextual elements for the multimedia installation.
